It’s Game On for a Summer of Sport in Angus
Angus is set to play its part in delivering a wide range of opportunities for young people to get involved in different sport and physical activity this summer.
The county is receiving its share of a £20m Scottish Government initiative to increase the availability and appeal of sport for young people in their local area. Delivered in partnership with sportscotland and the Angus Sport and Physical Activity Framework (ASPAF), the initiative will provide inclusive opportunities for children and young people aged 3–26 to get active, with a particular focus on reducing barriers to participation and tackling poverty-related inequality.
The programme will support activity throughout the summer of 2026 and help to build stronger, lasting pathways into school, club and community sport through to March 2027 and beyond.
This summer, It’s Game On, and the 2026 Summer of Sport is a unique opportunity for communities across Scotland to embrace the excitement of sport, inspired by the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, both of which will showcase Scotland on the world stage and inspire young people to take part, get active and begin their own journey in sport and activity.
ASPAF, which includes representatives from ANGUSalive, Angus Council, Angus Health & Social Care Partnership, Dundee & Angus College, Public Health Scotland, Voluntary Action Angus and sportscotland, are behind the development of local plans.
With £60,000 of funding already allocated to voluntary and third sector organisations, a wide range of sports and activities will be available, helping young people to get involved, develop healthy habits, build stronger social connections and gain a lifelong love of sport.
