Summer of Sport

National Context
On 28 January 2026, the Scottish Government announced the national Summer of Sport 2026 programme. Investment is intended to provide free or low-cost, inclusive opportunities for children and young people aged 3–26 to get active, stay active and improve their lives; with a particular focus on reducing barriers to participation and addressing poverty-related inequality.
The investment is intended to support activity during the summer of 2026 and create a lasting through to March 2027 by strengthening pathways into sustained participation in school, club and community sport.
Local Angus Context
The approach for how this investment is being delivered locally is being developed by the steering group for the Angus Sport and Physical Activity Framework. This group includes representatives from ANGUSalive, Angus Council, Angus Health & Social Care Partnership, Dundee & Angus College, Public Health Scotland, sportscotland and Voluntary Action Angus.

The Kirriemuir Youth Project aims to improve the quality of life of young people living in the Kirriemuir area, for young people to improve their confidence, develop better relationships (personal, social & integrational) & to increase their participation in positive activities.
