ANGUSalive Launches New Coaching Academy to Inspire the Next Generation of Coaches
Have you ever thought about becoming a coach, developing new skills, or helping others enjoy sport and physical activity? ANGUSalive is excited to launch its new Coaching Academy, a free development programme designed to support aspiring and developing coaches across Angus.
The Coaching Academy provides individuals with the opportunity to develop coaching knowledge, gain recognised qualifications, build confidence and gain practical experience in a supportive environment. Whether you’re completely new to coaching or looking to build on existing experience, the programme offers a structured pathway to help participants learn, develop and progress.
Supporting Future Coaches
The Academy has been created to help develop the next generation of coaches within Angus by providing training, mentoring and hands-on opportunities within ANGUSalive’s sport and physical activity programmes.
Participants will have the chance to:
- Develop coaching knowledge and practical skills
- Build confidence working with children and young people
- Complete recognised training and qualifications
- Learn how to create safe, positive and inclusive environments
- Gain valuable coaching experience
- Progress through a structured coaching development pathway
A Step-by-Step Coaching Journey
The Coaching Academy is delivered through three progressive tiers, allowing participants to build their knowledge and experience over time.
Tier 1 – Learn
The starting point of the Coaching Academy, providing the essential foundations for those beginning their coaching journey.
Tier 2 – Develop
Participants build upon the skills gained in Tier 1 and begin to specialise in sports and activities that interest them, such as football, swimming or gymnastics.
Tier 3 – Deliver
A further development stage that provides coaches with additional opportunities to grow their experience and continue progressing in their coaching careers.
Tier 1: Your Coaching Journey Starts Here
The Academy’s first tier focuses on equipping participants with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to begin coaching.
Successful applicants will receive a PVG through ANGUSalive and gain practical coaching experience while working towards completing Tier 1.
Training opportunities include:
- L3 Emergency First Aid at Work (RLSS)
- Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport
- UK Disability and Inclusion Training
- Introduction to Coaching Children
- Mental Health and Wellbeing in Sport
These qualifications help participants develop a strong understanding of coaching, safeguarding, inclusion and wellbeing while providing valuable experience working in sport and physical activity settings.
Who Can Apply?
The Coaching Academy is aimed at anyone with an interest in coaching, sport and physical activity.
The programme is ideal for:
- People interested in becoming a coach
- Young people looking to develop new skills
- Individuals considering a career change
- Those wanting to build confidence and experience
- Aspiring coaches looking to progress their development
Applicants aged 16 and over are encouraged to apply, although expressions of interest from younger individuals will also be considered for future opportunities.
No previous coaching experience is required.
More Than Just Training
The Coaching Academy is about more than completing courses. It is designed to support participants as they learn, develop and grow, helping them gain experience, confidence and recognised qualifications that can support future coaching opportunities.
Participants who successfully complete Tier 1 will have the opportunity to continue their development through additional coach education, sport-specific qualifications, mentoring and further practical coaching experiences as the programme grows.
