Fallen Tree Clearance Work at Crombie and Monikie Country Parks
As many residents of Angus will know, Crombie and Monikie Country Park were badly impacted with damage caused by Storm Arwen and the other storms of 2021/22, with windblown trees restricting access to some paths.
Budget was identified in March 2023 and contractors were secured to remove felled and unsafe trees to make the parks more accessible. However, the work was delayed so as not to disturb the breeding season.
Now that the season is now over, and felling permissions have been granted, so both Angus Council and ANGUSalive are pleased to announce that the work at Monikie and Crombie Country Parks will commence today Tuesday 5 September.
Cllr Mark McDonald, Communities Convener said, “We know that the fallen trees have been an inconvenience for visitors to these beautiful country parks and we appreciate their patience. Work is now underway, and we look forward to seeing some of the circular walks restored. However, as previously stated, a lot of felled wood will be left as it provides vital food and shelter for a huge range of native animals and plants, thus sustaining and increasing the biodiversity in the parks.
Colin Knight, Senior Manager at ANGUSalive – the trust which runs the county’s cultural, sport and leisure services, including the Country Parks – said, “We are delighted that the work is underway for the clearance of some of these trees. It comes at an excellent time given that we’ve just had the driveway at Monikie Country Park resurfaced. This work will make a huge difference to the customer experience experience at Crombie and Monikie as we look forward to re-opening as many paths as possible at both.”
