ART MOVES Inspires Audience with Powerful Interpretation of Antony & Cleopatra

ART MOVES, the Angus charity that helps people with disabilities realise their full potential through participation in drama, art and music, once again proved the power of inclusive theatre with its annual Summer Drama Project at The Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath.

Each year, the group comes together to devise and rehearse a unique production inspired by one of William Shakespeare’s most celebrated plays. This year, the talented cast presented their own interpretation of Antony & Cleopatra, delivering a moving, creative and entertaining performance that captivated everyone in the audience.

The production was brought to life with the support of an incredible team of volunteers, producers, helpers and staff from ART MOVES and The Webster Memorial Theatre.

Over just 10 days, the cast and production team worked tirelessly to transform Shakespeare’s epic story into a performance that showcased not only talent, but determination, teamwork and creativity. From learning lines and rehearsing scenes to creating costumes, and props, every member of the team played an important role in bringing the production to the stage.

Their hard work paid off spectacularly. The audience was enthralled from beginning to end, responding with laughter, applause and admiration for a performance that demonstrated confidence, passion and remarkable commitment. For many in attendance, it was far more than a play, it was an inspiring celebration of what can be achieved when people are encouraged to believe in themselves and supported to reach their full potential.

The production served as a reminder that theatre has the power to build confidence, develop friendships and create opportunities for everyone to shine. Every performer brought something unique to the stage, and together they delivered a show that left a lasting impression on all who watched.

Following the performance, participants were presented with certificates in recognition of their dedication and achievements before enjoying a slideshow of photographs capturing the highlights of the 10-day project.

The prestigious Ross Ramsay Trophy was also awarded to Bethan Robb in recognition of her outstanding contribution to this year’s Summer Drama Project.

Claire Drummie, Theatre and Venues Operations Lead at ANGUSalive, said: “We have been hosting ART MOVES for a number of years now and have built such a strong relationship with the group. It has been wonderful to watch the community continue to grow.

“It feels very fitting that they perform at The Webster, a venue that plays such an important role in our local community. ART MOVES embodies everything community theatre is about, and every year they amaze us with what they achieve.”

The success of this year’s production was a testament not only to the performers but also to the dedication of the producers, volunteers and support team, whose energy, patience and encouragement helped create an unforgettable experience. Their commitment behind the scenes enabled every participant to step into the spotlight with confidence, resulting in a production that was both uplifting and truly inspirational.

Once again, ART MOVES demonstrated that with creativity, opportunity and teamwork, remarkable things can happen on stage.
