National Theatre of Scotland Brings Powerful Care Experience Installation to Reid Hall, Forfar

One Hundred Voices,  an immersive new installation from the National Theatre of Scotland will invite audiences in Dumfries to step inside the stories of Scotland’s Care Experienced community this October.

The interactive, audio-guided experience will be presented at Reid Hall over three performances, running from Thursday, October 1 to Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Created as part of the three-year Caring Scotland project, One Hundred Voices transforms one hundred real-life testimonies into a moving artistic journey through sound, light and space. Rather than a traditional theatre performance, audiences will explore a series of immersive environments where memories, resilience and imagination unfold through the recorded voices of people with lived experience of Scotland’s care system.

Led by acclaimed playwright Nicola McCartney, the installation celebrates the lives, experiences and perspectives of Care Experienced people while encouraging audiences to imagine a future where every child is valued, every voice is heard and every story matters.

The production serves as both an artistic experience and an act of recognition, highlighting the strength and diversity of Scotland’s Care Experienced community through intimate storytelling.

The installation will premiere at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh on August 12, 2026, as part of both the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Scottish Parliament’s Festival of Politics, before embarking on a national tour that includes Glasgow, Dumfries, Stranraer, Forfar and Glenrothes.

One Hundred Voices is presented by the National Theatre of Scotland in partnership with Who Cares? Scotland and the National Library of Scotland. The project is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with additional support from The Weir Charitable Trust and The Rayne Foundation.

Adding a further layer of authenticity to the experience, the audio installation is narrated by actor, producer and author Scott Kyle, whose own lived experience of Scotland’s care system reflects the themes at the heart of One Hundred Voices. Through his narration, audiences are guided through the installation’s immersive environments, helping bring to life the personal testimonies, reflections and aspirations that shape this powerful artistic journey.
