A Photo Finish for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge – Race into a Book! Has seen an impressive turn out from the readers of Angus.
During the 8-week challenge, running from Saturday 1 July – Saturday 26 August, ANGUSalive Libraries saw a total of 1008 (200 Adult and 808 Junior) residents of the Angus sign up to take part. In total, across all seven libraries, a total of 6223 reading challenge books were issued.
Sylvia Main, Children & Families Libraries Lead, “Reading is important at any time but reading for pleasure during the summer gives children choice to choose books they would like to read, rather than being asked to read! We all know reading gives us the opportunity to use our imagination to explore new ideas, new characters, new places and to understand the world we live in.”
Kirsty Sutherland, Libraries Team Leader, “It’s been a fantastic summer of reading and I’d like to congratulate everyone who signed up and challenged themselves to read more this summer. Whether you read one book or made it to six, this is an amazing achievement, and with over 6,000 books borrowed for the challenge we can definitely say that Angus is a county of great readers!”
