National Libraries Week 2024
This year, to celebrate National Libraries Week, ANGUSalive Libraries are thrilled to host two exciting events designed to bring the community together and showcase the diverse offerings of our local libraries.
The first event will take place at Forfar Library on Thursday, October 10th, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This event will spotlight our innovative Lend + Mend project, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainability and skill-sharing within the community. As part of this celebration, we are offering an Introduction to Using Our Sewing Machines session. This hands-on workshop is perfect for anyone interested in learning new skills or brushing up on their sewing techniques, whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your craft. The session will provide all the necessary materials, and our friendly staff will be on hand to guide you through the process. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get creative, connect with others, and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.
The second event is scheduled for Friday, October 11th, at Kirriemuir Town Hall, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. This Discover Your Library event is all about exploring the wealth of resources and services available within your Angus libraries. Attendees will have the chance to learn more about the wide range of services on offer, from borrowing books and digital resources to accessing support resources in the form of our MacMillian partnership or the extensive collection of Dementia boxes designed to stimulate memories and discussions. In addition to discovering our library offerings, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about our Local & Family History services with our Archives team on hand to answer any of your questions. This event is also the perfect opportunity to pop into Kirriemuir Library, sign up or borrow a book and attendees will also have the opportunity to board one of the mobile libraries and find out how we reach the rural readers of Angus.
A highlight of the event will be a special talk by Marion Todd, the acclaimed author of the “Detective Clare Mackay” series, who will share insights into her writing process and discuss her latest work from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Additionally, there will also be a Bookbug session from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM, specially designed for our youngest readers. This interactive session will include songs, rhymes, and stories, making it a delightful experience for children and parents alike.
Both events are free and open to the public, offering a wonderful chance for individuals of all ages to engage with the library community, discover new interests, and celebrate the invaluable role that libraries play in our daily lives. Whether you’re eager to learn a new skill, delve into the world of detective fiction, or simply enjoy some quality time with your little ones, these events promise something for everyone.
Lesley Matthews, Libraries Operations Lead said of the National Libraries Week event: “it gives us a fantastic opportunity to highlight all the exciting and diverse range of services and activities our library service has to offer. Whether you are a regular library member or not we hope you come along and join us in celebrating the important role libraries play in our communities.”
We warmly invite you to join us in these celebrations and experience first-hand the many ways in which ANGUSalive Libraries enrich our community.
Happy National Libraries Week from all of us at ANGUSalive Libraries — we look forward to celebrating with you!
