Monifieth Library to Relocate to Monifieth Activity Centre

Monifieth Library is set to relocate from its current High Street location to the newly established Monifieth Activity Centre (MAC) beside the Blue Seaway playpark. The move aims to enhance community access to library services and integrate them with the vibrant facilities offered by the MAC.

To facilitate the transition, the library will close for a two-week period from Tuesday 6 May and is scheduled to reopen on Monday 19 May. This temporary closure will allow for the seamless relocation of resources and ensure that services are fully operational in the new setting.

Laura Stewart, Libraries Operations Lead, said that “After four decades on the High Street, the library team at Monifieth are excited for this new chapter as they make the move to the seafront MAC. We’ll still be offering a wide range of books, activities and services for adults and children, as well as internet access and printing to help keep people connected. The new community building is already buzzing with energy as people enjoy all that the centre has to offer – including a fantastic selection of cakes – so we’re very much looking forward to being part of the MAC and welcoming everyone to our new home.”

The Monifieth Activity Centre, which officially opened in September 2024, serves as a community hub offering a range of amenities, including a 300-seat multi-use hall, a café with beachfront views, a fitness suite, and facilities such as super-fast Wi-Fi and Changing Places toilets. The integration of the library into this space is expected to foster increased community engagement and provide a modern, accessible environment for all residents.

Although the library will open in its new location on Monday 19 May, the team plan on hosting an official launch event to celebrate their new home and invite everyone to come along to see the new site, find out more about the library service and there may even be a special visitor for the younger readers. Official launch event date to be announced.

To make things easier for our customers, books that are out on loan have had their due dates extended to exclude the closure period and any reserved items that haven’t been collected by 3 May will be transferred down to the new library and kept for a further fortnight.

During our closure, customers will be able to access library services via neighbouring Angus libraries and our digital library app, Libby. Customers with enquiries for Angus Council should visit a neighbouring Angus library or contact ACCESSline on 03452 777 778.

The libraries new address will be Monifieth Library, Monifieth Activity Centre, Riverview Drive, Monifieth, DD5 4NH. Please note that the library’s telephone number and opening hours will remain the same.

This exciting move marks a new chapter for Monifieth Library. By relocating to the Monifieth Activity Centre, the library is not only offering an enhanced, modern space for its service users but also helping to strengthen the community’s connection to this already thriving hub. The new space promises to be a bright, welcoming place for all to enjoy.

Keep an eye out for updates on the official launch event and join the celebration when the library reopens its doors on Monday, 19 May!
