Meet the Team: Ranger Brian
We are delighted to welcome Brian Tasker to the ANGUSalive Countryside Adventure team as the newest Countryside Ranger.
Brian brings a wealth of experience in countryside management, biodiversity and community engagement. A graduate of Elmwood College and the University of Dundee, he spent more than 15 years with the Dundee City Council Ranger Service, where his work focused particularly on woodland management and red squirrel conservation.
Alongside his professional experience, Brian has volunteered with organisations including the RSPB, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Woodland Trust, as well as working with Highland estates and a range of land managers. These experiences have given him a broad understanding of different habitats, landscapes and approaches to countryside management.
Brian has also worked in education and community settings, including training as a primary teacher and working with organisations such as Scrapantics and Angus Special Playschemes. These roles have helped shape his understanding of the different barriers people can face when accessing the outdoors, and the important role that nature and outdoor spaces can play in health, wellbeing and bringing communities together.
“As a Forfar loon, the opportunity to join ANGUSalive really appealed to me. It gives me the chance to combine my passion for nature, people and the outdoors, while using and further developing the skills and experience, I’ve gained throughout my career. I feel ANGUSalive is the perfect setting to help make a positive difference to both people and nature across Angus.”
Outside of work, Brian is rarely far from the outdoors and enjoys birdwatching, cycling, climbing, skateboarding and exploring the countryside of Angus and beyond. When he’s forced indoors, you’ll find him reading, listening to music, pottering about in his workshop or, as he puts it, fuelling his addiction to BBC Radio 4 (other radio stations are available!).
The team at countryside would also like to wish former Countryside Ranger, Callum Lyall, all the very best in his new role as Project Officer with Angus Council. They are sure Callum’s experience and passion for the Angus countryside will continue to make a difference in his new post, and they look forward to working with him in his new role.
