Labours of Love exhibition opens at Forfar’s Meffan Museum

ANGUSalive Museums & Galleries team welcomes Meg & Lawrie Harris to their retrospective exhibition at the Meffan Museum & Art Gallery, Labours of Love.

Both artists are graduates of Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Meg in drawing and printmaking, and Lawrie in graphic design and printmaking. These four years laid the foundation for a lifetime’s involvement and love of art as both teachers and exhibiting artists. Both have exhibited widely including the Scottish Arts Council, Richard DeMarco European Art Foundation, Royal Scottish Academy, and the Royal Scottish Watercolourists. Their work is represented in various collections including HRH The Prince Philip, Earl of Dalhousie, Angus Council, Grampian Hospitals Arts Trust, Inverness Council, and many private collections worldwide.

Museums, Galleries & Archives Exhibitions Lead, Meghann Logue said, ‘We are delighted to welcome Meg & Lawrie Harris to the Meffan. Their love of life, art, and each other is reflected in the decades of work on display. It is a privilege and a pleasure to host their retrospective exhibition.”

Meg Harris has previously said, ‘I always paint on the spot – attacking the canvas in a flurry of activity using acrylic paints which are quick drying. Early mornings are my preference when the light brings out the intensity of colour! I love the idea of pinning a moment, capturing the light and shadow on the hill, reflections in a canal or harbour, boats with their challenging, beautiful anatomies.’

Labours of Love by Meg & Lawrie Harris is on show now until Monday 30 June 2025 at the Meffan Museum & Art Gallery, Forfar.
