Journey with a Book This Summer with ANGUSalive’s Summer Reading Challenge 2026!

Get ready, Angus! The much-loved annual Summer Reading Challenge returns on Saturday 4 July 2026, inviting readers of all ages to embark on a summer reading adventure.

This year, ANGUSalive Libraries are challenging participants to read six books over eight weeks. Everyone who completes the challenge will receive a special medal and certificate to celebrate their achievement.

Christine Sharp, Adult & Community Libraries Lead, said:

“The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to discover the joy of reading, explore new authors and genres, and make reading part of their summer routine. We’re excited to welcome readers across Angus to take part in this year’s challenge and celebrate the wonderful benefits that reading can bring to individuals and communities alike.”

The Summer Reading Challenge continues to inspire people of all ages to discover the joy of reading, explore new authors and genres, and make reading part of their summer.

Building on last year’s incredible success, the 2025 challenge attracted 1,280 participants, with an impressive 9,411 books issued during the eight-week programme through ANGUSalive’s seven libraries, two mobile libraries and home delivery service, highlighting the important role libraries continue to play in communities across Angus. This represented an increase of 144 participants compared with the previous year, making it one of the most successful challenges to date.

This year’s challenge is set to be even bigger and better. Whether you enjoy thrilling fiction, fascinating non-fiction, laugh-out-loud joke books, inspiring poetry, colourful picture books or eye-catching graphic novels, there’s something for everyone. Best of all, participants are free to choose the books that interest them most, making every reading journey unique.

Running from Saturday 4 July to Saturday 22 August 2026, the challenge provides the perfect opportunity to relax, discover new stories and make reading part of your summer routine. With seven libraries, two mobile libraries and a home delivery service reaching communities across Angus, taking part couldn’t be easier.

Whether you’re a lifelong book lover or looking to read more for the first time, the Summer Reading Challenge is a fun and rewarding way to set a personal goal and enjoy the many benefits that reading can bring.

Can we beat last year’s record-breaking numbers? There’s only one way to find out. Grab your library card, choose your books and let the reading adventure begin!
