Inspire a creative streak and warm your heart at Museums in Angus this Winter

There’s a selection of Winter Wellness at Museums events to inspire a creative streak and warm your heart this winter at ANGUSalive Museums and Galleries.

Winter Wellness at Museums includes activities such as Therapets, Winter Show Christmas Shopping Evening, an 8-week Arts Programme and a Creative Writing Workshop.

The first two events are on Friday 15 December where you can drop into a Winter Wellness session with volunteers and their therapy dogs from Canine Concern Scotland for a Furry Friday at Arbroath’s Signal Tower Museum. Later in the day you can relax into the busy festive period at an open evening shopping event at the Meffan Winter Show, where you can view the exhibition with a glass of wine in hand as the Visitor’s Choice award is announced.

In early 2024, there’s another chance to spend a feel-good Furry Friday at Montrose and Forfar Museums.

For the creative minded, Jude Gove, Lead Artist with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust, will deliver a new Arts programme for people experiencing long term health conditions who live in Angus.  This is an 8-week programme that begins on Wednesday 7 February.

Jude Gove said: “Working with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust at the Meffan Museum provides a unique opportunity to explore the museum’s collections, and participants will create work inspired by objects that catch the groups imagination. I can’t wait to see the art produced!”

Aspiring Authors can take a Creative Writing Workshop at the Signal Tower on Monday 4 March, which will explore the social history of the fascinating building and its links with the social history of Arbroath. The workshop is led by local writer and creative writing tutor Matthew Knights.

Susan Curran, Heritage, Learning & Engagement Lead with ANGUSalive said: “We hope our museums provide a place of comfort and inspiration over the cold winter months.

“It’s a pleasure to work with the various partners on the Winter Wellness at Museums programme and we’re looking forward to hosting these great activities.”
