Walking Sports return to Station Park for Mental Health Awareness Week
Following the success of last years Walking Sports event at Forfar’s Station Park which was enjoyed by 100 participants, Angus Community Sports Hub are pleased to announce the return of the event on Friday 15 May at Station Park.
The walking sports event is supported by mental health colleagues in the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, where the theme for 2026 is ‘Action’.
This event is an opportunity to recognise the positive impact that sport and physical activity have on fostering stronger communities throughout Angus, and to celebrate the deep level of contribution that local organisations and groups have in helping to achieve this.
Teams of 5 players are invited to play rugby, football and cricket while resisting the urge to run. The first hour of the event will be the walking sports tournament which will be made up of teams of mixed abilities, ages and genders so anyone who wants to, can take part safely. Those who do not wish to take part are more than welcome to come and spectate and provide support to those who are participating. The second hour of the event will be an opportunity for information sharing and networking with refreshments being provided.
Ross Taylor, ANGUSalive Community Sports Hub Co-ordinator said: “As well as the opportunity to get out in the fresh air for some exercise and connect with others, there is the chance to note your aspirations on our ‘hopes and dreams wall’.
Think posters, pictures, quotes, anything that you are comfortable to share, and that show where you have or can help make an impact through your actions linked to physical activity.
The idea is that – through the hopes and dream wall – we can demonstrate just how significant an impact sport or physical activity can have on people’s lives across Angus.”
If you would like to take part in the event on Friday 15 May, please email ross.taylor@angusalive.scot stating:
- Names of the participants in your team
- If you would like to take part in Walking Sports only
- If you would like to take part in Networking + celebration only
- Or if you would like to take part in both of the above – walking sport participation + networking
Please note the closing date for signing up is Friday 8 May at 5pm. Team places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
