Angus Libraries and Museums to offer more accessible opening hours

ANGUSalive is delighted to announce that from Monday 5 June 2023, Libraries in Angus will be extending opening hours to 6 days a week. Museum opening hours are also set to change from Saturday 1 July, including being open on Sunday’s and Monday’s for the first time.

The charity trust manages seven libraries and five museums across the county, as well as mobile libraries, archives and an online offering.

During the pandemic, the services had been operating at a reduced service. A review has subsequently taken place to consider the best way to open the libraries and museums to serve those who use them.

Kirsty Sutherland, Libraries Team Leader at ANGUSalive said: “We are thrilled with the upcoming changes to our opening hours. We are convinced this will make our brilliant library service more accessible across Angus and meet the demands of our members.”

ANGUSalive libraries have a diverse offering which goes way beyond the typical borrowing of books. They offer the much-loved Bookbug, Reminiscence Groups and Macmillan Information and Support Services. They also offer e-books, e-audiobooks, free internet access, printing services and are a great place to meet up with people.

The Angus service were also selected as one of only 9 other services in Scotland to be awarded funding for a “Lend and Mend Hub” at the Forfar Library.

Scott McRuvie, Museums Team Leader at ANGUSalive said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome visitors to Angus museums over the whole weekend from Saturday 1 July. We hope the new Sunday and Monday opening hours are much more convenient for local families as well as visitors to Angus.”

The museums that ANGUSalive operates include Arbroath’s Signal Tower Museum, Brechin Town House Museum, Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum, Forfar’s Meffan Museum and Art Gallery and Montrose Museum.
