Local athletes open new gym at ANGUSalive’s Forfar Community Campus
On Saturday 1 July ANGUSalive were delighted to open their brand-new gym at Forfar Community Campus, officially opened by local Forfar athletes Eva Finnie and Lyall Webster.
Eva Finnie is an U18 Scotland international rugby player who currently plays for local team Strathmore Sharks. Earlier this year the former Forfar Academy pupil took part in the U18 Women Six Nations Festival, where she started 4 out of the 5 games and is tipped to have a bright future in the game.
Lyall Webster meanwhile is an U18 Scotland National Development Water Polo player. Representing Menzieshill Whitehall Swimming and Waterpolo Club, Lyall has been in a natural in the water from a young age and in September 2021, was selected for the National Development and Caledonia Water Polo team. Later this year, he will travel with the squad to Greece as part of his development.
Lynne Haxton, Sport & Leisure Team Leader at ANGUSalive said: “We are delighted to open our brand-new gym and it is fitting that two talented athletes from right here in Forfar are cutting the ribbon. Their achievements to date not only showcase their dedication and hard-work to their sport, it should also serve as an inspiration to those in the community.”
“We are fortunate that with our new gym and its additions will support not just young people like Eva and Lyall, but also be a space where anyone in Forfar can fulfil their exercise goals. We have worked hard to deliver a diverse gym offering, complimented by the fitness classes we run by our excellent coaches and are convinced that we have something for everyone in the community.”
Eva Finnie said “I am very humbled to have been asked to open ANGUSalive’s new gym. As a local athlete it’s great to be recognised. I understand the importance of community support and combined with an excellent facility like this one, I’m confident myself others can take advantage of it”
Lyall Webster said: “Being selected to open the new gym is a privilege. It is brilliant to have a facility like this on our doorstep which I know will benefit everyone, not just my own development.”
This latest gym refurbishment follows other major renovations that ANGUSalive have completed in the last 12 months at Arbroath Sports Centre, Montrose Sports Centre, and Brechin Community Campus as part of a significant investment programme to upgrade and revitalise its Sport & Leisure portfolio. Another refurbishment at Carnoustie Sports Centre is underway with a relaunch scheduled for early September.
Improvements to the gym facilities will include a fully refurbished space with the latest gym equipment from Life Fitness and Indigo Fitness, as well as cardio and fixed resistance machines, multi-functional training rigs, colour-coded training zones and enhanced audio and visual solutions. The redeveloped spaces will also feature the latest technology including Myzone, an accurate fitness tracker and online social platform that rewards effort for all physical activity.
