Free swims and teen zones just some of what’s on offer this October

ANGUSalive is once again providing a healthy, active and creative mix of activities this October break.

With over 20 different activities to choose from, residents and visitors will find something to do in Angus this October.

Free swimming for 4-17 year olds makes a return across five pools, including Arbroath, Montrose, Brechin, Kirriemuir and Forfar. Funded from Angus Council’s Holiday Food & Fun Budget, this initiative once again helps encourage young people to get active and into the pool.

A new activity launching this October is Teen Zone, supervised gym sessions for children age 10-16 years. These sessions will provide guidance on how to safely use the gym equipment as well as enjoy a fun workout.

For lovers of the outdoors, there’s activities for the active or arty.  Art in the Park at Forfar Loch will enable 5-12 year olds to sketch and gather natural materials and Stag Party at Glen Doll could offer little ones and grown-ups the chance to experience the rutting of the Red Deer Stags. Over at Monikie there’s mountain biking, raft building, paddleboarding and disability & inclusion watersports, cycling and Halloween trails.

Gail Mallarkey, ANGUSalive Children and Families Physical Activity Lead explains more about the holiday programme. She said: “We’ve got a wide selection of activities in October for all ages and abilities. We’re particularly pleased to launch a brand new activity called Teen Zone. We’ve seen an increase in interest from young people looking to access this type of activity in our fitness suites therefore this new class will enable them to enjoy the benefits of these spaces as well as learn how to use the gym equipment safely.”

Other activities taking place include celebrating 120 years of Peter Rabbit and Chatty Café sessions at libraries; drop-in family fun and craft sessions at museums as well as disability and inclusion Dance Fun in partnership with Dance Studio Forfar to name but a few.
