ANGUSalive invites Artists to showcase their work at the Meffan Winter Show

ANGUSalive’s Museums & Galleries team welcome artists and art lovers to the ANGUSalive Meffan Winter Show 2022 in its 30th anniversary year.

Making its return for the first time in two years due to Covid, the competition invites artists from all over Scotland at all stages in their creative practice to enter their artwork into the Meffan Winter Show.

All visual artworks will be considered: paintings, textiles, sculpture, jewellery, graphic design, illustration, ceramics, fashion, animation, film, photography, anything… you are invited to surprise with your artwork!

The submission window opened on 12 September and artists will be able to submit their work until 10 October 2022 via the open exhibition portal.

The Meffan’s Winter Show started as the “Christmas Extravaganza”, and thirty years on has become a key event in the Scottish arts calendar, providing an opportunity for artists of all levels based in Scotland to exhibit their work.

Through the contributions of artists submitting and then showcasing work at the Winter Show, Angus has continued to develop a vibrant collection of art to be treasured for future generations.

As well as showcasing their work in this open exhibition, each of the selected artists has the opportunity for their work to be chosen to become part of a public collection.

Rachel Jackson, ANGUSalive Museums Galleries & Archives Operations Lead explains more about the exhibition. She said: “We are really excited to be able to bring back this important event in full following an absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We expect this to be our best year ever and look forward to exhibiting an incredible variety of artworks from talented Scottish artists.”

Avril Cunningham, who entered her work titled ‘Regeneration’ in the 2019 Winter Show and won the Colin Dakers Memorial prize said: “I was delighted to win the Colin Dakers Memorial Purchase Prize and have my painting as part of the Angus Fine Art collection.  It also looks great on my CV.”

Two purchase prizes will be awarded, the ANGUSalive Purchase Prize of up to £1,500 and the Colin Dakers Memorial Purchase Prize of up to £1,000, and there is a special Visitors’ Choice award exclusively for amateur artworks of £200.

The exhibition opens in the Meffan Museum and Art Gallery, Forfar on Saturday 12 November and can be visited free of charge Thursday to Saturday 10-4 until 7th January 2023.
