ANGUSalive Museums join Dog Friendly Scheme

ANGUSalive’s five museums have become dog friendly visitor attractions.

Arbroath Signal Tower Museum, Brechin Town House Museum, Forfar Meffan Museum & Art Gallery, Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum and Montrose Museum, are delighted to welcome your four-legged friends with support from Dog Friendly Angus and Dundee Scheme.

The five unique buildings that are home to the museums, date from as early as 1604 and house displays which bring the story of Angus to life, from archaeological treasures such as Bronze Age swords, intricately carved Pictish stones, precious decorative silver, natural history specimens through to a wealth of art. Knowledgeable Visitor Advisor’s provide tourist information to highlight what is on offer in Angus. This wealth of knowledge can now be accessed by visitors with dogs rather than having to wait outside and ‘pet sit’.

Museums Galleries Archives Operations Lead, Rachel Jackson said, “This summer we have made it easier to discover what’s on display in our incredible museums and there is something for everyone. If you would like to learn about life as a lighthouse keeper on a remote, wave-lashed rock in the North Sea, or if you wonder about cattle rustling and the Black Hole of Brechin, or if you are fascinated by art, then come and visit our museums. Our dog friendly sites will mean you won’t have to stand outside with the dog whilst everyone else goes in, but instead visit as a family.”

Olive the Miniature Dachshund visited with her owner Eilidh Macleod who said: ”It’s great to have somewhere like the museum on our door step that the whole family, including Olive, can enjoy. Now that no-one has to be left behind or outside, we’re all happy.”

New opening hours allow for visiting 6 days a week to Arbroath Signal Tower Museum, Forfar Meffan Museum and Art Gallery, and Montrose Museum. Kirriemuir and Brechin museums are also now also open on Sundays.
