Well, I’ll ‘Bee’ Creating a Buzz! ANGUSalive to take part in Action Earth Project
ANGUSalive’s Countryside Adventure Ranger Service is calling on everyone to lend a hand to improve the local environment by getting involved in a brand-new Action Earth project.
The Ranger Service are looking for volunteers to assist in preparing an unmanaged area and planting it for bumblebees, butterflies and other useful insects. The activity will take place over a number of days in July to mid-September at Forfar Loch Country Park.
Help is needed to clear, prepare and plant a small area with a mix of perennials and spring flowering bulbs to provide food for bumblebees at a time when they need it most. As the area is mostly bracken, it will take a number of years to get it under control so it’s important to improve this overwintering site as soon as possible.
The activity is part of the Volunteering Matters’ Action Earth campaign to help local communities respond to climate change.
Action Earth will be supporting around 135 projects in Scotland in 2023 with grant awards of up to £250. These grants are aimed at groups who support and encourage volunteer activity through practical environmental projects for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Grant funding for the campaign is provided by NatureScot.
Mhairi Kimmet, Countryside Ranger with ANGUSalive said “Everybody can get involved in their local outdoor spaces. They are a shared resource and a shared responsibility. From the smallest individual action to a national campaign, every contribution helps! Volunteering Matters’ Action Earth grants are designed to help groups of volunteers take practical action to improve and create places for wildlife.”
