I teach Gentle Aerobics at Carnoustie Leisure Centre and an Aqua Aerobics class at Arbroath.

I have always been an active person. My earliest memories are of P.E. at Morgan Academy. I spent most of my time in the gym hall and played every sport I could.

I always wanted to be a P.E. teacher but didn’t get my higher English so even though I passed the practical at Dunfermline, I didn’t get in. I spent my working years as a Nursery Nurse then a S.P.S.A. at our local primary school where I was able to pass on my love of sport to the children. When I got my contract  from AA saying I was a fitness coach at the age of 60, I finally felt that I had done it at last.

The new friends I’ve made. The  support I’ve had since being asked to start a class catering for the more mature clients in Angus, has been phenomenal. It’s the best part of my week.

Challenges, yes, a few. My own fitness has been a bit of a challenge, I’m not getting any younger and sometimes my body lets me know!! Barriers, no, i have found that ANGUSalive have been very supportive of all my ideas and themes.

When the Gentle Aerobics class was suggested to me, I was a supply Zumba teacher. It was a huge commitment to take on but I reach my 4 years anniversary next week.  We have grown from 12 attendees to up to 60 on Thursday mornings.

Also, the WEAR IT PINK classes  started as a bit of fun to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness, and the classes all wanted to make it an annual event. So proud of the money we have raised for this worthy cause as I was shocked to find out just how many participants in my class have been touched by breast cancer.

Definitely more classes catering for the over 60’s, with instructors that understand that we’re not quite so fit as we used to be.  We all have more aches and pains than when we were young, but, oh how we love to dance and have fun while we do it.
