Libraries on the Move thanks to funding from SLIC

ANGUSalive Libraries on the Move began a journey around Angus on 2 June 2023.

The Libraries on the Move project was one of 8 initiatives awarded by The Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC), who distribute funds on behalf of the Scottish Government.

ANGUSalive was awarded £11,530. This funding will highlight the different services libraries offer as well as reach rural locations to demonstrate the important role libraries can play in people’s lives whilst helping combat inequality in the community.

The pop-up format will bring a multitude of resources to community spaces including book borrowing, author visits, Bookbug sessions and workshops from organisations including the NHS, Macmillan, Move More, Voluntary Action Angus, the Community Police service, and Angus Social Care Partnership.

The first event was held on Friday 2 June at Westmuir Hall, Kirriemuir and was a huge success offering access to one of the mobile libraries (Isla), a Bookbug session in the sun, and community information about ANGUSalive and Voluntary Action Angus. Local author Wendy H Jones took time to read Bertie the Buffalo to the children, and adults.

Kirsty Sutherland, Libraries Team Leader said; “We are delighted to launch this project which we know will play a valuable role in the community. It will give people who are more socially isolated and those who are geographically challenged to explore the wide range of services a library can provide. It will also offer the opportunity for people to upscale their digital skills and improve their health and wellbeing through a range of partnership sessions.
“Our current Mobile Library Service visits a large area of the Angus community, and this is an opportunity for our rural communities to experience everything that a Library can offer to support members – not just reading, but health, wellbeing, digital access and more.”

The next Libraries on the Move session will be held at Glenesk Retreat on Friday 23 June at 11:00am. Find out more about the project including the timetable at https://angusalive.scot/libraries/libraries-on-the-move/
