Free Sustainable Period Products Trial Launches in Angus

Free sustainable period products will be made available at ANGUSalive Sports Centres as part of a new trial initiative in Angus.

ANGUSalive are working in partnership with Angus Council and the Angus Community Planning Partnership to offer free sustainable period products to anyone living in Angus who may need them for themselves or on behalf of others, under the Free Period Angus banner.

The free sustainable products will initially be available in all seven leisure centres across the region.

This new trial is in addition to the free period products already available at more than 190 locations throughout Angus, including community centres and libraries, schools, sports and leisure centres, medical centres, and third sector organisations. Angus also has 145 period-positive employers who provide free period products to their staff and customers.

Councillor Heather Doran, from Angus Council, said: “Angus Council is committed to the provision of free period products to support equality and dignity. We want to make sure everyone who needs access to period products can access them easily.

“Our ambition stretches beyond the standard provision of free period products that support poverty prevention and wellbeing, to also include sustainability.

“In the UK alone, 4.3 billion disposable period products are used every year, producing over 200,000 tonnes of waste. This new trial provides Angus residents with the opportunity to try reusable, sustainable and environmentally friendly period products, such as period pants and menstrual cups—helping to tackle period poverty while reducing single-use plastic waste in Angus.”

Lynne Haxton, Sport & Leisure Team Leader with ANGUSalive said: “We’re proud to be part of the free sustainable period products trial in Angus. Our seven sports centres are easy to access, and many sit alongside secondary schools, making them ideal locations to help tackle period poverty and reduce waste in our communities.”

Angus residents can find their nearest location and information on how to collect their free sustainable period products by visiting: www.angus.gov.uk/communities_and_people/free_period_products.
