Celebrate National Walking Month with ANGUSalive
May is here, and with it comes National Walking Month 2025, a fantastic opportunity to embrace the simple yet powerful benefits of walking. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or just looking to take your first steps towards a healthier lifestyle, this month-long celebration is the perfect time to get outside, get active, and connect with others.
Walking is an easy, low-cost activity that everyone can enjoy, no matter their fitness level. From improving your mental and physical health to exploring the beautiful outdoors, there’s no shortage of reasons to lace up your shoes and start moving this May.
Here in Angus, ANGUSalive is excited to offer a variety of Health Walks designed to welcome everyone—especially those who are currently inactive, living with long-term conditions, recovering from illness or injury, or at risk of isolation. These regular, short, free, and low-level walks are led by trained staff and/or volunteers and take place in communities across the county, from Kirriemuir to Montrose.
The Healthy Steps Angus initiative, funded by ANGUSalive in partnership with Paths for All, Angus Health & Social Care Partnership, GOGA Tayside, and Angus Council, aims to co-ordinate, develop, and sustain these Health Walk programmes, ensuring that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the benefits of walking in a supportive, friendly environment.
Beyond the physical benefits, walking is a great way to clear your mind, breathe in some fresh air, and connect with nature. And it’s not just about the steps—these walks are a chance to meet new people, make friends, and share a chat along the way.
Whether you’re looking to improve your heart health, boost your mental well-being, or simply get out and enjoy a change of scenery, the Health Walks provided by ANGUSalive offer a fantastic opportunity for everyone to join in. It’s not just about physical activity—it’s about making connections, having fun, and stepping towards a healthier, happier you.
Our Health Walk Coordinator Rhona told us:
“It’s such a privilege to have been coordinating and developing this programme of Health Walks in Angus since 2022. With over 30 walks available in Angus now we do believe we are supporting more and more individuals to enjoy both walking and the outdoors. Whether you’d like to join us on a walk as a participant or a volunteer please do come along.”
