Call for entries to the 33rd Meffan Winter Show
Artists across Scotland will be delighted to hear that entries are now open for the much-anticipated ANGUSalive Meffan Winter Show 2025, the annual open exhibition that has become a cornerstone of Scotland’s visual arts calendar.
From 5pm on Friday 15 August 2025 until 5pm on Friday 12 September, artists of all levels across Scotland are invited to submit their work for this vibrant exhibition. Open to both professional and amateur creatives, the Meffan Winter Show showcases a wide range of visual art – from paintings and photography to sculpture, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, illustration, film and more.
All pieces included in the exhibition will be eligible for the ANGUSalive Purchase Prize of £1,500. Amateur submissions will be eligible for the ANGUSalive Visitors Choice Award of £200, which is chosen by public vote.
Gemma Hare was awarded a prize in the 2024 Show for her artwork ‘Briney Sands’, mixed media on a cradled panel. ‘Briney Sands’ is an abstract landscape based on Aberdeen beach. Gemma’s work explores the colours and the feelings experienced at the location, as opposed to an exact visual representation.
Gemma said: “I would encourage anyone to enter the Meffan Winter Show, which is a great opportunity to have your work displayed. To have had my work selected to be part of the permanent Angus collection is very exciting.”
ANGUSalive aims to exhibit the largest and most diverse exhibition of contemporary art, design and craft to be held in Angus this year, giving visitors the opportunity to discover, enjoy and also the chance to purchase their favourite piece. All mediums from visual art, craft and design from artists at all stages in their creative practices will be considered so everyone is invited to surprise and intrigue the selection panel with their work.
Meghann Logue, Exhibition Lead with ANGUSalive said: “This will be the 33rd year of the Meffan Winter Show which started out as a Christmas Extravaganza.
“It’s a really lovely opportunity to get local artists involved in their gallery and in their museum because this space we have here is for them. We can’t wait to see the fantastic entries to the 2025 show.”
The Winter Show exhibition will be held at the Meffan Museum & Art Gallery in Forfar from Saturday 25 October 2025 through to Monday 12 January 2026.
