ART MOVES showcase their annual Summer Drama Project at The Webster Memorial Theatre

ART MOVES – a charity in Angus that helps people with disabilities to realise their full potential through participation in drama, art and music – have recently hosted their annual Summer Drama Project at the Webster theatre in Arbroath.

Each year they meet up to devise and rehearse a new play based on a famous Shakespeare text. This year they chose to rehearse and perform their own version of ‘As You Like It’.

Directed by award-winning playwright and director John Binnie with support by the team of volunteers and staff from Art Moves and The Webster Memorial Theatre.

For two weeks the actors working with Art Moves have been rehearsing for their annual Summer Drama Project before concluding with a public performance in front of 200 enthusiastic people at the theatre.

Each participant then received a certificate before joining the audience to watch a slide show of photographs by Robin Mitchell who documented the two-week project.

For his outstanding contribution to the project, Kevin Bandeen was awarded the coveted Ross Ramsay trophy.

Claire Drummie, Acting Theatre Manager at ANGUSalive said “We have been hosting ART MOVES for a number of years now and we have built such a strong rapport with them and are so pleased to see this community grow. We have been hosting them next in the room next to our office.

It’s very fitting they are here at the Webster, which the team here see as playing an important role in the community and ART MOVES encapsulate that. We can’t wait to see what’s coming next for them.”

ART MOVES visit the theatre weekly and if you would more information about them and they work that they do, you’ll find them here.
