ANGUSalive up for a hat-trick of awards at prestigious sport & leisure ceremony

ANGUSalive has been nominated for three awards at the 2nd Scottish Leisure Network Group (SLNG) annual awards, recognising their recent investment and hard work in the sport & leisure sector.

The awards they are nominated for are:

  • Facility of the Year Award (Arbroath Sports Centre)
  • Special Achievement Award (Sam Nowosielski)
  • Campaign of the Year

Arbroath Sports Centre has been one of six recently refurbished ANGUSalive gyms which has seen the footfall across the centres increase by 73%. The refurbishments have included the introduction of the latest gym equipment from Life Fitness and Indigo Fitness including cardio and fixed machines, a functional area including a training rig, a colour-coded training zone and a “Myzone” integration to track workouts and progress of gym members.

Arbroath Sports Centre in particular has witnessed a footfall increase from 5,146 visits to a whopping 15,386 visits, marking a 198% usage increase of the centre since the refurbishment was open to the public in September 2022.

There has also been a marked improvement in bACTIVE memberships, where annual sales reached 833 memberships – well above the 545 memberships target the team had set.

Sam Nowosielski started his career with local football club Carnoustie Panmure, where he attended ANGUSalive events and after 4 years volunteering he started working with ANGUSalive in 2019 as a supply sports coach, covering a range of sports.

He was influential in the creation and development of programmes including a range of football programmes and how the community clubs use ANGUSalive facilities. His work has since flourished and is now responsible for the delivery of ANGUSalive’s Football Festival Programme, which caters for over 200 children every weekend. His work hasn’t gone unnoticed by the clubs, children, and parents that he works with, and he has now secured a full-time position within ANGUSalive.

Meanwhile, the Campaign of the Year award is a recognition of extensive marketing work that has gone on behind the scenes to increase the visibility of ANGUSalive’s portfolio across the county.

In partnership with digital marketing specialists TA6 (Alliance Leisure), ANGUSalive have achieved impressive results including over 1 million impressions, an increase of 41% website users which contributed to an increase of over 1,500 new gym members worth £300,000 additional income.

Lynne Haxton, ANGUSalive’s Sport & Leisure team lead said: “We are thrilled to be nominated in these three categories. It recognises the great work the team have been doing over the last 12 months, both behind the scenes and directly to the community. I am so pleased for Sam, who is a great example of how progressive a career can be with ANGUSalive, starting from a highly valued volunteer to securing a permanent position with us. We wish everyone the best of luck on the night.”

Sam Nowosielski said: “I’m humbled to be nominated for a special achievement award and it was certainly unexpected. It’s great to be recognised but deep down I just love what I do and it’s a big thanks to the local community that I work with, and ANGUSalive for helping develop me at this stage in my career”.

The winners will be announced at the MacDonald Inchyra Hotel (Falkirk) on Thursday 16 November, where the SLNG event will be held.
