Scottish Ballet and ANGUSalive to offer free dance sessions for people living with Parkinson’s and MS in Angus.

People living with Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) across Angus are being invited to take part in free weekly dance sessions led by Scottish Ballet at Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath.

Part of Scottish Ballet’s acclaimed Dance Health programmes, the sessions use gentle, adaptable movement to help improve balance, coordination, mobility and overall wellbeing, while also offering a welcoming and supportive social experience.

For those interested in Dance for Parkinson’s, a free taster session will take place on Tuesday 3 February, 1.30–3.00pm, followed by complimentary refreshments. Weekly classes will then run on Tuesdays from 17 February, 1.30–3.00pm.

For those interested in Dance for MS (SB Elevate®), a free taster session will take place on Tuesday 17 March, 11.00am–12.30pm, also followed by complimentary refreshments. Weekly classes will then run on Fridays from 17 April, 10.00–11.30am.

Led by Scottish Ballet’s experienced Dance Health artists, the sessions are inspired by the company’s repertoire and accompanied by uplifting music. Classes are mainly seated, with the option to stand if participants wish, and no previous dance experience is required. Participants are welcome to bring along a companion for support.

Tiffany Stott, Scottish Ballet Dance Health Manager commented:

“We’re very proud to be extending these sessions into Angus. Dance can be such a powerful tool for supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing. In our experience, we have seen first hand the impact of how it can help people feel more confident in their bodies as they self-manage conditions such as Parkinson’s and MS, and we can’t wait to help those in Angus.

Kirstie Abbey, Health & Wellbeing Lead at ANGUSalive, said: “We are delighted to offer this to residents of Angus in partnership with the Scottish Ballet and it is a fantastic complimentary activity to our current Be Active, Live Well and Healthy Steps programme. We have supported thousands of local people with our gentle activities, and we hope to help even more with this exciting initiative.

Attendance is flexible, and participants do not need to attend every class, members are welcome to join at any point during the programme.
