Open call: Micro-commission opportunities with the World Cultures Collection in Angus
ANGUSalive Museums & Galleries are delighted to offer two micro-commission opportunities which will run alongside the upcoming exhibition ‘Perspectives: Collecting the World’, which will be on show at Montrose Museum from 2 August to 3 November 2025.
These commissions are funded by Creative Scotland and work produced will make a valuable contribution to a wider project funded by Museum Galleries Scotland to re-evaluate the Angus World Cultures collection and engage meaningfully in sector wide work to address the legacy of Empire and colonialism in Scottish museums.
ANGUSalive are asking for proposals that respond to the World Cultures collection which features weapons and armour, ceramics, musical instruments, decorative art, paintings, textiles, domestic objects and costume from all over the world. Submissions should respond to one or more of the following themes:
- The cultural heritage of specific regions in Africa, Asia or Australia and the Pacific Islands
- Identity and representation
- Angus and Scotland’s historic links to the transatlantic slave trade
- Empire and colonialism
This fund is open to all; however applications from practitioners belonging to historically marginalised groups are particularly welcome, those based in Angus, and those whose work advocates for anti-racist practice, equality and diversity.
The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2025.
