Meffan Winter Show 2025 opens with two purchase prize winners

ANGUSalive’s Museums & Galleries Team welcomed artists and art lovers to the Meffan Winter Show preview evening on Friday 24 October 2025.

The opening preview night saw the museum packed with those who had been invited, some of whom had travelled from as far as Nairn and the Scottish Borders to be present at the annual event in Forfar.

Originally launched as the ‘Christmas Extravaganza’, the Meffan Winter Show has grown into a vibrant showcase of Scottish creativity, featuring work by both emerging and established artists from across the country. As well as showcasing their work in this open exhibition, each of the 210 selected artists had the opportunity for their work to be chosen to become part of the public collection, through the ANGUSalive Purchase prize of up to £1,500. Local Artist Kym Needle judged the submissions and selected the winning artworks.

This year’s exhibition includes a wide range of art forms; from painting and sculpture to photography, textiles, jewellery and ceramics.

The 2025 purchase prize winners are:

• Autumn Reflections by Helen Whamond

Museums, Galleries & Archives Exhibitions Lead, Meghann Logue said: “The Winter Show is always the most exciting time of year for all of us.  Each year brings new voice and fresh perspectives and it’s a privilege to host this celebration of creativity.”

Dariusz Kaminski said: “I’m really grateful to have been awarded the prize. Mill 360 took a few weeks for me to put together, the subject matter is quite deep and means a lot to me. Thank you for having me here.”

Helen Whamond said: “I’m delighted to receive the ANGUSalive purchase prize. It means a lot to me as a local artist to know that my work will be held in the Angus collection.”

ANGUSalive aims to exhibit the largest and most diverse exhibition of contemporary art, design and craft to be held in Angus this year, giving visitors the opportunity to discover and enjoy as well as purchasing the artwork that’s on display.

The ANGUSalive Meffan Winter Show 2025 runs from Saturday 25 October 2025 – Monday 12 January 2026. ANGUSalive aims to exhibit the largest and most diverse exhibition of contemporary art, design and craft to be held in Angus this year, giving our visitors the opportunity to discover and enjoy.
