ANGUSalive Awarded £57,790 to Launch “Cabinet of Curiosities – The Inventory Project”

ANGUSalive is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £57,790 from Museums Galleries Scotland to support a major new initiative: Cabinet of Curiosities – The Inventory Project.

This ambitious project will run alongside the planned relocation of ANGUSalive’s main collections store in 2026 and will play a vital role in developing a full inventory of the museum collections while contributing to a healthy and sustainable rationalisation process.

For the first time, community engagement and public participation will be central to this collections-focused project. ANGUSalive will be able to welcome visitors into its collections store, deliver behind-the-scenes workshops, establish a new collections volunteer programme, and further strengthen partnerships with academic institutions. Through these collaborations, students and volunteers will gain hands-on skills in collections management, curation, and preventive conservation.

The funding will enable ANGUSalive to recruit a new staff member to support essential cataloguing work, purchase conservation-grade storage materials, and deliver an exciting programme of events that will give the people of Angus direct access to the county’s remarkable objects and histories.

Emma Gilliland, ANGUSalive Museums & Galleries Collections Lead, said: “We’re so grateful to Museums Galleries Scotland for supporting this new project to develop the knowledge of our collection and share it with others. We welcome any local Angus businesses, groups, or heritage organisations to get in touch if they’d like to collaborate on heritage skills’ development heritage, research projects, or would simply like to book an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour later in the year.”

ANGUSalive encourages the public to stay connected for upcoming news about the Cabinet of Curiosities project, the opening of the new collections store, future events, and the advertisement of the new role. Updates will be shared on the organisation’s website and social media channels.
