Labours of Love n Light illuminates the Meffan

On Tuesday 3 June, ANGUSalive in partnership with Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) held a display of work produced from ‘Labours of Love n Light’, a workshop that took place at Forfar’s Meffan Museum and Art Gallery.

‘Labours of Love ‘n’ Light’ theme was introduced to a group of participants with mixed long-term conditions living in Angus who explored the Meffan Museum Exhibition ‘ Labours of Love’ currently showing by Meg and Laurie Harris.

Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust and ANGUSalive provided a second partnership programme delivery of working with people across Angus who have long term health conditions as a part of a project lead by Artist Jude Gove. Supported by NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation, Creative Scotland and THAT.

Artist Jude Gove worked with the group over an eight-week session programme to explore collage and mark making within their own personal interest theme and creating a design for their own lamp shade.   The final display was arranged to celebrate the group’s achievements.

Jude said: “I really enjoyed working with this group and getting to know everyone. They have made some wonderful contributions, and it has been a great space to work in and the group have worked so well to create their final lampshade design.”

THAT development officer Karine Neill said: “This is our second partnership programme delivery with ANGUSalive and using this exhibition as a source of inspiration for the group has been a great basis to work around.  The group have been keen to engage, and each design has been so different and unique to the person. The programme has provided an opportunity to support the participants and introduce them to working within this wonderful space at Meffan Museum and Art Gallery Forfar.”

Susan Curran, Heritage Learning & Engagement Lead of ANGUSalive museums said: “It has been a privilege to spend time with the artist and participants and see each of their unique artworks take shape. It cannot be understated how transformative these activities can be for the participants, and we very much look forward to working on future art programmes with THAT in Angus.”

“This programme is supported by NHS Tayside, Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership, Creative Scotland. NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation and The Gannochy Trust.
