James Torrington Bell Works from the Collection
Display extended until 22 April 2023
James Torrington Bell was better known as manager of the Carnoustie Royal Bank of Scotland until his retiral in 1957, however prior to this career he attended Edinburgh College of Art and travelled widely achieving recognition as a talented landscape painter. Torrington Bell’s primary aim was to show people his vision of the things we know, mountains, lochs, rivers, farms, avenues of trees and dry stone dykes, are all quintessential features of his works that we all know and recognise today in the Angus countryside. Torrington Bell would often paint outdoors and could be seen travelling by bike, easel and paints carefully strapped upon his back around his home town of Carnoustie.
