Arbroath Library Renovation Taking Shape

Progress is being made on the ground floor renovation at Arbroath Library, with a new layout beginning to take shape while services continue to operate from the first floor.

Visitors can still access Library and Angus Archives, as well as ACCESS support, upstairs as work continues to be carried out on the ground floor to create a refreshed and welcoming public space.

A new front desk has been installed, featuring a display wall that incorporates exhibition space, self-service machine and public catalogue access.

The refurbishment also includes the addition of a private ACCESS pod. This new dedicated space will allow visitors to have confidential conversations with staff when discussing personal matters or seeking support.

Further improvements include the creation of a new Learning Shop space. A partition wall has been installed in the area previously used for the local history collection, forming a flexible learning space that can also open out into the adjacent seating area when required.

Across the entire ground floor, new flooring has now been laid, marking another significant step towards completion.

Over the coming weeks, new furniture and shelving will be delivered and installed. Once these are in place, the building will temporarily close to the public, allowing staff to move the main library back downstairs as well as organising the remainder of the library collection currently in storage.

When the building reopens, Angus Archives will remain located on the first floor, and the local history collection will also return from storage.

ANGUSalive Libraries & Archives thanked the community for their patience while the improvements continue and said they look forward to welcoming visitors into the refreshed spaces soon.
