Exciting upgrades coming to Forfar Loch walking and cycling path

ANGUSalive’s Countryside Adventure team are pleased to say that work is set to begin on a series of significant improvements to the much-loved walking and cycling path around Forfar Loch, bringing safer, smoother and more accessible routes for everyone to enjoy.

What does this mean?

The project will strengthen key active travel connections from the north and east of Forfar to Orchardbank Business Park, making it easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle as part of everyday journeys or leisure trips. Improved surfacing and accessibility will help ensure the route can be enjoyed by users of all ages and abilities.

Building on successful improvements delivered in 2023, this latest phase of work includes the construction of two new accessible crossings – one over the Dean Water and another over the smaller stream to the north – further enhancing connectivity around the loch.

To keep everyone safe while construction is underway, there will be temporary closures of sections of the path at various times.

Clear advance notices will be displayed along the route and on our website, and we thank users for their patience and cooperation during these essential works.

These upgrades support our colleagues at Angus Council’s vision of encouraging sustainable travel, improving access to green spaces and boosting local wellbeing.

The project is funded through Angus Council’s Tier 1 funding, provided annually by Transport Scotland, and represents another positive step towards a healthier, more active Angus.

Temporary Closures – Cycling path Wardmill Road, Arbroath to St Vigeans

Works will start on Monday 12 January on a series of significant improvements to the walking and cycling path connecting St Vigeans and Arbroath. It includes, surface upgrades, drainage improvements, accessibility enhancements and new signage and wayfinding.

The completion of this work will strengthen connections to the town’s Place for Everyone (PfE) project. The path provides a vital link to the communities of St Vigeans, Kirkton, Carnie and Warddykes and allows for almost completely traffic-free route into town and onto West Links and beyond, using the recent improvements along the A92 and NCN1.
