ANGUSalive Expands Paddlesports with Paddle UK Partnership and Canoe Polo Launch
ANGUSalive is excited to announce a major new chapter in paddlesports following its achievement as an official Delivery Partner with Paddle UK, the national governing body for paddlesports across the United Kingdom.
Paddle UK oversees a wide range of activities including canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Supporting paddlers from beginners to elite athletes, Paddle UK plays a vital role in coaching, training standards, waterway access, and environmental stewardship. It works closely with associations across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England, serving a growing community of over 90,000 members.
This partnership represents a significant step forward in enhancing the quality, safety, and opportunities for paddling within Angus.
Starting in 2026, ANGUSalive will deliver a wide range of Paddle UK certified courses, including:
- Paddle Safer: Designed for those new to paddling or with limited experience, this course focuses on safe paddling skills in sheltered water environments.
- Paddlesports Safety and Rescue: Equips paddlers with essential safety and rescue techniques to handle common situations on the water.
- Paddle Touring Award: Develop skills needed for a safe touring experience.
- Paddle Start Award: A fun, practical introduction to paddlesports.
- Paddle Discover Award: Builds confidence and skills, helping paddlers become independent and make safe decisions on the water.
- Paddle Explore Award: Allows paddlers to choose their next adventure, taking ownership of their paddling journey.
All courses will be led by experienced instructors, aimed at building skills and confidence within the local paddling community.
Alongside these courses, ANGUSalive is excited to introduce canoe polo at Monikie Country Park. This fast paced, tactical team sport is played with specially designed kayaks and lightweight paddles. Requiring teamwork, quick thinking, and precise boat control, canoe polo is one of the few team disciplines within kayaking. Players wear full safety gear including helmets and faceguards, making it accessible and exciting for all ages.
Supported by Paddle UK and working closely with Paddle Scotland, ANGUSalive aims to grow canoe polo across the county and establish Monikie as a key hub for Scottish tournaments and events.
Iain Brough, Outdoor Physical Activity Lead and Head of Paddlesports at Monikie Country Park, said: “Becoming a Paddle UK Delivery Partner is a fantastic achievement for us. It raises our national profile and allows us to offer high quality training and exciting new activities like canoe polo. We’re looking forward to welcoming paddlers of all ages to experience this energetic sport at Monikie Country Park.”
Keep an eye out for course launches, events, and more paddling opportunities with ANGUSalive in 2026.
