Thousands of pounds raised through Spin event
Carnoustie Sports Centre Spin Class held their 24 hour ‘Pedal for Pounds’ event on 15 March 2024.
The event was a great success and has so far managed to raise over £5200 which will be split between Beth Greig and Maggie’s Dundee.
Beth is a local swimmer for GB Down Syndrome Swim Team. She also donates her time to volunteering with ANGUSalive by assisting a swim coach at Forfar Community Campus. Beth self-funds her travels to competitions and events and monies raised through the 24-hour challenge will help her to continue to do something she loves.
Beth helped to kick the event off with an hour on the bike along with others in the team who took turns of cycling between 1 and 5 hours each.
Gerry Menmuir, who helped to organise and participated in the event, said: “We are eternally grateful to Neil and the staff at Carnoustie Sports Centre for their help and encouragement and members of our spin class and the swimmers and parents of Arbroath St Thomas for their cycling efforts.
The biggest thanks goes to our instructor Bruce Whamond, who not only was DJ and quizmaster for the full 24 hours, but managed 5 hours of cycling as well.
We set a target of £1000 per charity and didn’t expect to exceed that. The generosity of everyone with their time, donations and raffle prizes has been just amazing!”
The Just Giving pages will be open for another week if anyone else would like to donate, they can do so at https://angusalive.scot/events/pedal-for-pounds/.
