ANGUSalive unpacks “Toybox” at the Meffan Museum!
This February you can step into a time capsule of joy and discovery at the Meffan Museum & Art Gallery as ANGUSalive open the Toybox Exhibition.
Toybox celebrates the vibrant world of toys of the golden era of play and takes a nostalgic look back at childhood games, puzzles and toys mainly from the 1980’s and 90’s with a few rare items from the 1960’s and 70’s. Visitors to the exhibition will be reminded of the sheer joy of toys, whether they were a joystick jockey, puzzle enthusiast, or action figure aficionado back in the day.
The 80’s and 90’s were a thriving time for toys, and it is often underplayed how big a role they play in someone’s life. It is a crucial part of childhood, teaching young ones about sharing, empathy and problem-solving. Toys also encourage imagination, where children create all sorts of adventures for themselves with the help of their favourite toys.
Toys also pay a huge memory dividend in adults, where recent research by Barclaycard has indicated 44% of adults purchased toys they enjoyed as kids because they bring back childhood memories.
ANGUSalive’s Toybox Exhibition looks set to trace some this fascinating history behind toys, with a selection of old favourites to be enjoyed by those who attend this fun filled exhibition.
Meghann Logue said: “We’re excited for this exhibition of childhood toys and hope that visitors will enjoy the interactive element of being able to play and view classic toy advertisements. The exhibition will appeal to everyone; whether a child of today, a parent who was a child in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s or 90’s and grandparents alike!”
The exhibition opens on Saturday 9 February and runs until Monday 1 April 2024 in the upper gallery at the Meffan Museum and entrance is free. You can find out more about the exhibition at www.angusalive.scot/events/toybox/
