ANGUSalive to raise curtain on new theatre school

– Brand new theatre school to launch at Webster Memorial Theatre

– 10-week programme led by industry professionals to specialise in range of fundamental stage skills for young people

– Ambitious plans to roll out across venues in Angus

ANGUSalive are set to introduce a new showstopping theatre school this April for budding performers in Arbroath.

‘Theatre Stars School’ will be held at the Webster Memorial Theatre and led by theatre industry professionals. The initiative will be a 10-week course specialising in a range of fundamental stage skills including acting, singing and dancing.

The school is available for children between the ages of 5 and 18 and at the end of the 10-week programme, pupils will be given the opportunity to perform in a production that will combine what they have been learning.

The educational programme will also teach life skills such as the ability to evaluate a performance objectively and the development of personal resources to deal with stressful situations.

Audrey Hood – ANGUSalive’s Theatre Manager – who is heading up the project said “We are extremely excited to launch Theatre Stars School to our local community. Theatre is an incredible opportunity for young people to immerse themselves in one of the most creative industries and we believe this programme allows us to show why that’s exactly the case.

Audrey – who has worked in theatre production for 27 years – has been involved in similar projects before and is confident this can be rolled out throughout the county.

She continued: “Naturally the Webster Theatre gives us a great starting point to launch Theatre Stars School but we don’t want to stop there. We have ambitions to roll the programme throughout Angus where we have excellent venues to host this project.”

The programme is scheduled to start with a free taster session on April 25 at 4.45pm to 8pm and will run each Tuesday at the same time for 10 weeks coinciding with school termtime – completing on 27 June. It will cost £4 an hour or £60 for a 5-week block.
