ANGUSalive Seriously Social: Communities – Our Mobile Library Service
ANGUSalive, as part of the Seriously Social campaign led by Community Leisure UK is today focusing on Communities and in particular, we are going to focus on our Mobile Library Service.
Reaching Out to the Community
Our mobile library service is designed to bring the benefits of the library directly to the people who might not otherwise have access. And it’s the people who make it what it is.
By travelling to rural areas and communities where travelling into town may just for the library may be a wee bit of an inconvenience , our mobile library ensures that everyone, regardless of location, can enjoy the wealth of resources and services a library offers. This outreach is particularly vital for:
- Remote Communities: Residents of remote or rural areas often have limited access to public services. The mobile library bridges this gap, providing essential services and a connection to the broader community.
- Elderly Residents: Many older adults face mobility challenges that prevent them from visiting a traditional library. Our mobile library brings books, audiobooks, and other resources directly to them, fostering a love for reading and continuous learning.
- Young Families: Parents with young children can easily access educational materials, storytime sessions, and learning resources without the need to travel far from home, promoting early literacy and educational development.
Enhancing Social Connections
Social interaction is a critical component of overall wellbeing, and the mobile library plays a key role in bringing people together. We know that people in rural communities can often feel isolated. And for some people, sadly a conversation with one of our drivers may be the only conversation they have with someone all week.
The regular visits from the mobile library offer a vital connection to the outside world for these people and the friendly interactions with our drivers of “Glen” and “Isla” are vital for them.
Our home delivery service also enables books to be delivered straight to homes and collected when they are ready to return. This service can be particularly helpful for residents who may find it difficult to visit their local library due to age, disability or have a caring responsibility.
