ANGUSalive Celebrate Diversity: Tayside Track & Field Festival Attracts 300 Participants
On Wednesday 15 May, a collection of Sport & Leisure and education bodies across the region have pulled together their biggest ever Tayside Track & Field Festival for athletes disabilities.
ANGUSalive, Actives Schools Angus, Angus Disability Sport, Dundee City Disability Sport, Perth & Kinross Disability Sport, Leisure and Culture Dundee, and Scottish Disability Sport all collectively hosted a Track & Field festival, tailored for individuals with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities, as well as those with additional support needs.
Hosted at the Regional Performance Centre in Dundee, the festival offered a diverse range of track and field events to accommodate various abilities and preferences. From sprinting to shot put, long jumps to javelin throws, participants had the opportunity to showcase their skills in a supportive environment.
Running for over 25 years the festival aims to provide a platform for athletes of all ages and abilities, with categories including primary school, secondary school and seniors.
Participants from the event will now be selected to represent their branches at the Scottish Disability Sport Championships which will be hosted at Grangemouth Sports Stadium on Wednesday 5 June.
Laura AP Smith (OBE), who is the Disability & Inclusion Lead for ANGUSalive said “Seeing 300 athletes from diverse backgrounds coming together to showcase their talents and participate in this event is truly remarkable. We have grown the festival every year and this is by far the biggest yet. The RPC is a great elite venue and we know our participants loved being back here again.”
“Sport continues to be an excellent vehicle in bringing together people with disabilities and supports inclusion for all. We know the positive impact this can have on young people and their families and we’re delighted this one was no different.”
