ANGUSalive Sports Awards - Nominations Now Open!

Published: Monday 26 November 2018

With the aim of celebrating sporting success throughout Angus, the ANGUSalive Sports Awards 2018 is once again looking to recognise the achievements of sporting individuals and teams across Angus.

Nomination forms are available now online at www.angusalive.scot/sportsawards with athletes, players, coaches, friends and family encouraged to submit forms for consideration by the independent selection panel. The awards ceremony takes place on Friday 8 March 2019 and the nominations close at 12 noon, Monday 14 January 2019. The awards aim to support local sporting talent and create an evening of celebration, recognising the hard work of many athletes, teams, coaches and volunteers.

Each year the awards have continued to raise the profile of sporting champions from those who compete and achieve individual successes to those who support promising sporting talent of all levels and those who enable valuable opportunities for athlete participation through the many sports clubs and initiatives across Angus. Previous award winners have included champions in swimming, athletics, basketball and football through to local volunteers, coaches and officials - many of which have gone on to enjoy worldwide success, competing at Commonwealth and Olympic levels.

Last year's Sports Personality of the Year Gemma Lumsdaine, was selected for the GB talent squad, training with the GB Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby squad this focusses on preparing athletes for consideration for the GB elite team. She went on to win silver in the Women's Cup in Paris playing for a European Select team.

Gemma Lumsdaine, winner of the Sports Personality of the Year award 2017, commented:

"It is an incredible honour to have won Sports Personality of the Year especially with such tough competition. As a disabled athlete, to be recognised in a mainstream category is huge and shows just how inclusive the ANGUSalive Sports Awards are."

Jordan Young, Sports Awards Team, ANGUSalive commented:

"Nominate now and help ANGUSalive celebrate the achievements of local sports people, coaches, administrators and volunteers across Angus. ANGUSalive wants you to help us to recognise and reward these sporting achievers.
