New Edition of ANGUSalive's Montrose Library... Coming Soon

Published: Tuesday 19 September 2017

ANGUSalive's Montrose Library is the next Angus library to receive a modern makeover and will temporarily close on Saturday 23 September at 4pm, reopening in an interim temporary library at 10am on Monday 9 October, 51 John Street, Montrose, DD10 8LZ (the former Registrar's Office).

Visit us in our temporary home and continue to take part in all your regular library activities including favourites such as Bookbug, Chatterbooks, Knit and Natter and the popular Reminiscence group. We will continue to deliver your face-to-face Angus Council customer services from the ACCESS Office, Town House, High Street Montrose, DD10 8QW, until the new library opens its doors in summer 2018.

In addition to our regular library service, your new library will offer flexible activity spaces for community use, bookable spaces for group studies or business meetings as well as an open gallery space which can be reserved for professional and community exhibitions or to host private functions.

Montrose Library was founded in 1905 and was gifted to the town by Scottish philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. The new flexible community space will continue to deliver well-loved library services and activities, whilst introducing face-to-face Angus Council customer services alongside many other valued community learning resources. The modern renovation to this special building, with detail agreed by Historic Scotland, will ensure Andrew Carnegie's legacy is fit for expanding community use well into the 21st century.

Lesley Marr, ANGUSalive's Principal Officer, Libraries, Customer & Culture commented:

"This is the second library to undergo a major transformation following the re-launch of Carnoustie Library on 9 September. Existing and new visitors are now enjoying its modern children's space and meeting rooms and we already have an exhibition in the Lochty Gallery from the Carnoustie Photo group. We are now really excited to see plans developing for Montrose as we strive to provide opportunities for the community to participate in healthy, active and creative lifestyle choices."

Arlene Henderson, Facilities Officer at ANGUSalive's Montrose Library commented:

"It's an exciting time for Montrose with the refurbishment of the library. We invite anyone who would like a last look at the current layout or indeed to have a sneak-peak at the plans for the refurbishment, to join us for some tea and cake at the library at 10am on Saturday 23rd September 2017 - we look forward to welcoming you all!"
