Community Embraces ANGUSalive's 'New' Montrose Library

Published: Monday 10 December 2018

Since unveiling the stunningly refurbished building in September, over 13,000 people have visited the reimagined modern and flexible community space at ANGUSalive's Montrose Library.

The team has greeted 172 new members and welcomed back 491 former members in the first two months of the 'new' library space which offers well-loved, traditional library services and activities, including Bookbug sessions for youngsters and reminiscence groups for older people. Nearly 500 children have already had fun with language through rhymes and songs at these free sessions and 715 adults have attended one of the innovative library activities available since Montrose Library reopened its doors.

The team has also issued 8,493 items to library members and answered 2,316 enquiries, including the face-to-face customer services ANGUSalive delivers on behalf of Angus Council.

Along with the rest of the ANGUSalive Libraries team, Montrose Library has just finished celebrating Bookweek Scotland, where they welcomed back Scottish crime author Stuart MacBride for a sell-out read and book signing event. Stuart had previously officiated the opening of the library at the end of August.

Arlene Henderson, facilities officer, ANGUSalive's Montrose Library commented:

"We are delighted that the enhancements made to this 113 year old building have attracted both new friends and old. This investment, funded by Angus Council, puts ANGUSalive Libraries firmly at the heart of our community for many more years to come. If you haven't already done so, please come in and see our bright new Montrose Library, we look forward to welcoming you to popular events such as our Harry Potter Nights."

Sandy, a customer at ANGUSalive's Montrose Library commented:

"The work carried out on the library has been to its benefit, brightened the old building up - a fresh look. It's a building Montrosians should be proud of, especially in an age when so many libraries are closing."

Montrose Library also offers meeting spaces which can be hired for small meetings, group study or client meetings and the larger Rose Room which is suitable for training workshops or private functions such as weddings, parties and celebrations. In addition, ANGUSalive has facilities throughout Angus, with a large number of spaces available for community and corporate hire. For more information please see www.angusalive.scot.
