Kirriemuir Community Sports Hub Launch

Published: Thursday, 14th April 2016

The Kirriemuir Community Sports Hub has its official launch on Saturday April 16, when local clubs will be offering free taster sessions to residents.

Based at Webster’s Sports Centre, there will be sports on offer for all ages to try, including bowling, golf, tennis, rugby, cricket, football, gymnastics and combat sports.

Sports hubs were formed as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games legacy. The Kirriemuir Community Sports Hub, supported by ANGUSalive and Sportscotland, is one of 150 hubs across the country providing a home for sport.

Their purpose is to bring together sports clubs and key local partners who want to enhance and develop the sport that is available within their local community.

Lottery-funded, hubs focus on sustainable, community-led approaches that get clubs working together to develop welcoming, safe and fun environments for sport.

The open day at the Kirriemuir Community Sports Hub begins at 10am and runs until 1pm.

Local clubs involved are

  • Kirriemuir Bowling Club,
  • Kirriemuir Golf Club,
  • Kirriemuir Tennis Club,
  • Strathmore Rugby Club,
  • Strathmore Cricket Club,
  • Kirriemuir Thistle Youths FC,
  • Evolution Combat Sports,
  • Angus Axis Gymnastics Club
